Football (Association), published in Paris in 1897, captures the rise of Association football and Rugby Union in France, where the games had grown in popularity since arriving with British workers at the end of the 1800s.
First published in Paris in 1897, the book had several re-editions until 1913. One of the authors was English Neville Tunmer. He and his brother Alfred played for the Standard Athletic Club, one of the first football clubs in Paris, founded in 1892. Tunmer’s co-author was the French player Eugène Fraysse, a pioneer of football in France and the captain of the French team in the Olympic Games in Paris 1900.
