The official poster of the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games was designed by celebrated American artist Robert Rauschenberg (1925–2008). It was one of the 16 posters created for the Games by Los Angeles artists during the Olympic Art Festival.
Rauschenberg had an active interest in photography and printmaking throughout his career. He mimics the Los Angeles 1984 emblem in this poster by using cut-out contemporary images. Many are connected to Olympic sports like skateboarding, boxing, and soccer. They are combined with photos of urban settings, technological advancements, and natural elements, creating an energetic and colourful mosaic of the modern world.
